The same load can cost more than twice as much to dump depending on the county. These are published rates, checked in November 2026.
| County | Low per ton | High per ton |
|---|---|---|
| Pinellas | $63.57 | $63.57 |
| Hillsborough | $109 | $148 |
Why the rates differ
Each county sets its own fees. Pinellas lists one disposal fee, charged by the ton for trucks and trailers. Hillsborough lists commercial rates of $109 for non-processable waste and $148 for processable waste.
Pinellas County keeps raising its dump fee
For about 30 years, Pinellas County kept its disposal rate unchanged. Since then it has climbed quickly, up about 50% from the $42.15 per ton it charged in 2021.
| When | Per ton |
|---|---|
| Before October 2021 | $42.15 |
| Before October 2025 | $54.50 |
| From October 2025 | $58.86 |
| Now | $63.57 |
The county's fee page now lists $63.57 per ton, about 8% more than the year before. A county staff email also projected $68.65 for October 2027, though that figure isn't final and is reviewed each year. Rising dump fees can push up what haulers charge, so it's worth getting a current price.
Why weight matters
Haulers usually price by truck space, but the dump charges by the ton. A pile of tile takes up the same room as a pile of furniture and can weigh several times more. That's why construction debris removal often costs more than regular junk.
